The window-juggling problem
Moving a file from a deep folder into another app often means resizing windows, opening a second Finder window, or dragging a file across a crowded desktop and hoping the right target appears.
File Shelf gives the files a place to wait while you navigate. The shelf stays available while you move between folders and apps, so you do not have to keep the source window visible.
Use the shelf
Open File Shelf
Open File Shelf from Supermac. It is the shelf for the files you are moving.
Drop files in
Drag files into the shelf from Finder or from any app that lets you drag a file out.
Navigate to the destination
Switch to the folder or app where the files should go. The shelf keeps the files available while you do it.
Drag them out
Drag a file out of the shelf and drop it on the destination folder, upload field or app window.
It holds files, it does not copy them
The shelf is a holding spot, not a duplicate folder. Files stay where you put them, and the shelf keeps them available while you move between folders and apps.
That makes it useful for a short move: collect the files you need, go to the destination, drop them, then clear the shelf. It is not a replacement for a file manager or a backup.
Where it helps most
- Collecting several files from different folders before uploading them to one place.
- Moving an attachment into an app that is already full screen, without shrinking it to find Finder.
- Keeping a reference file within reach while you work across two apps.
Pair it with the launcher
File Shelf handles the files; the launcher handles the apps and actions around them. Open the destination app from Supermac, then use the shelf to carry the files across.
Plugins extend the same launcher with actions for the services you already use, from password vaults to package managers. Browse the plugin directory when you want to add one.
